Measures of self-care improved from 2013 to 2017

On the Student Quality of Life Survey:

  • Sleep: In 2013, respondents reported 3.3 days of getting enough sleep to feel rested in the last 7 days; in 2017, this jumped to 4.1 days, with gains across most groups.
  • Eating: In 2013, 51% of respondents said they ate fruits and vegetables at most meals in the last 7 days; this increased to 60% in 2017.
  • Importance of health: On the 2017 survey, students were asked “On a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is not important and 10 is extremely important, how important to you is your overall physical health?” and “Overall mental and emotional health?”. Respondents rated both very high, but the importance of their mental and emotional health a little higher (8.85 vs 8.28).
